Poppleton under threat from new development proposals
This is an important and urgent note to residents: There is a City of York Council consultation underway on proposals for very significant development in Poppleton villages and the West side of York. We urge residents in Nether Poppleton to understand the proposals and make comments.
The City of York Council are working on York’s new Local Plan, this plan will shape future development of new homes and businesses up to 2030. Following previous consultations, landowners and developers have submitted further evidence on sites for development as well as some new sites. The City of York Council is now undertaking a new “further sites consultation” on that information which closes on 16/07/14.
The Nether Poppleton Parish Council is concerned about these sites and is highlighting this consultation to residents so they do not miss having a chance to have their say on the matter.
There are proposals in this consultation that if accepted would very significantly impact the villages of Nether and Upper Poppleton, potentially doubling or trebling the number of houses. The magnitude of this additional development will impact village life.
Information on the further sites is available on line at www.york.gov.uk/localplan
or visit West Offices or Poppleton Library. To find out more you can also call the City of York Council consultation phone number on (01904) 552255. Please take time to consider these new further sites proposals and take the opportunity to submit your comments before it is too late.
Comments can be made before the closing date by completing a City of York Council “Local Plan Further Sites Consultation Comments Form” available from the library, Council Offices, at the planned exhibitions (none in Poppleton!) or online.
